SummaryThe Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the policies, programs, and procedures within the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) management system and will ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and customer EHS requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the followingThrough the application of the EHS Management System, the role holder will promote and encourage the highest levels of EHS performance to assure compliance with legal and other regulatory standards utilizing risk assessment to drive continuous EHS improvement.
Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
Maintain site EHS Management system and the continual improvement of EHS working practices in line with the latest legislation and regulations.
Monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations.
Developing measures to assure personnel safety.
Correct unsafe acts or conditions through the regular line of authority.
Conduct toolbox and planning meetings to identify any health and safety concerns inherent in the operation's daily work plan.
Responsible for engaging management, staff, and contract workers to promote a positive safety culture.
Conducts investigations and reporting regarding accidents, injuries or illnesses, near misses, fire, property damage, and other safety-related incidents to ensure timely and compliant resolutions.
Arranges for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandated testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants.
Initiate and deliver various Environmental and Health & Safety training of employees.
Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
Participate actively with Clean Energy's leadership to establish policies and directions to achieve targets and objectives within the environment, health and safety program.
Assist in developing company Clean Energy EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
Support the development of programs, systems, and processes, including training and coaching to establish clear procedures on EHS measures and precautions.
Partner with site supervisors to drive the implementation of the processes and programs, ensuring each site maintains a continuous audit ready state of compliance with company EHS policies and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Support the implementation of investigation of all EHS related incidents to develop processes and tools to drive to the root cause and identify actions to prevent and eliminate recurrence.
Ensure the company meets all compliance obligations with Cal/OSHA, OSHA, EPA, AQMD, CUPA, DTSC, SWRCB, and applicable fire codes.
Oversee the submission of reports to federal, state, and local agencies.
Manage the annual environmental site survey program, which includes compiling all data, reviewing all surveys, preparing written reports of findings, and making recommendations for corrective or preventive measures.
Manage the SDS compliance program per OSHA 1910.
1200, which includes obtaining, reviewing, and managing all applicable Safety Data Sheets.
Coordinate and Conduct site inspections, audits (i.
e.
, CUPA, NPDES, Fire, and Pressure Vessel) and monitor and document required corrective actions.
Act as liaison for regulatory agency site visits and inspections.
Follow-up to ensure actions are taken.
Leads and facilitates process safety reviews, plans, and audits; provides input to emergency action plans; conducts internal EHS audits and/or risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.
Complete, document, and submit all required EHS reports and recordkeeping information.
Identify, document, and correct any unsafe chemical storage or disposal.
Oversee the Near Miss Safety Program, which includes performing investigations, root cause analysis, determining trends using statistical data analysis, and updating policies and procedures as needed.
Coordinate and conduct monthly safety meetings at assigned sites, which include offices, warehouses, plants, training centers, and manufacturing facilities.
Coordinate annual fire drills at all manned sites, which include offices, warehouses, plants, training centers, and manufacturing facilities.
Be a participating member of the company's Life Safety Team at the corporate office.
This includes ensuring Floor Wardens are appropriately trained and all employees know when, how, and where to evacuate in an emergency.
Organize and lead safety committee activities where observed hazards, near misses, and incidents are discussed, solutions identified, and opportunities for communication on current safety topics are provided.
Assist EHS Compliance Manager with managing the annual safety budget to include spending approvals within the EHS department and manage invoicing, cost tracking, and analysis.
Assist the EHS Compliance Manager in maintaining the following Contractor Databases (Veriforce, ISN, Avetta) Bid review and compliance, including contract review and EHS compliance SharePoint site management for EHS, Safety, and Risk Management Annual safety budget to include departmental invoicing, cost tracking, and analysisQualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or ExperienceMinimum three (3) years experience in a Safety related role and bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety or a related discipline.
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, nationally recognized standards, and guidelines related to the position's specialized environmental health and safety functions.
Demonstrated experience in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental health and safety hazards.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
